Building Independence

"Now my girls are so independent; they are dropped off for a few hours on a Saturday, go from class to class with their friends and enjoy the satisfaction of passing exams and progressing through the grades."

Personal touch!

"The Blackheath School of Dance is a very friendly school and both my girls have made many solid, ongoing friendships with both pupils and staff, both past and present during their 12-15 years at the school.

The school has grown considerably since Molly and Grace started there but it hasn't lost its personal touch. The teaching staff are all lovely, the senior team help with the younger pupils and the alumni return regularly to support, help out or just to say Hi!"

Former Students of BSOD

Having been at BSOD for 16 years and taken part in 7 summer shows, it was a very sad moment when I had to leave last year. I'm about to start 2nd year studying Chemistry at Bristol University and I still make time for a weekly ballet class! I'm on the Pom Squad in the University Cheerleading team and this year we achieved 1st place at both a regional and a national competition.

I was delighted to be awarded "Best Dancer" in the team, and I'm very excited to continue competing. The girls I met at BSOD are still my best friends now and we love coming back to watch shows and presentations, and I'll always miss dancing here and the lovely BSOD family!

I started ballet when I was 6 years old and by the time I was 13 I was involved in all the disciplines on offer. After becoming head girl when I was 15 and playing Eliza in My Fair Lady in my last bsod show I decided to pursue dance and musical theatre as a career.

I've just graduated from The Urdang Academy, one of the most prestigious dance colleges in the country and am about to move to Spain for my first professional performing job. Without Bsod I definitely wouldn't be doing what I'm doing today and I have all my teachers to thank for pushing and encouraging me!

I started BSOD when I was 18 months old and continued on there until I was 18 years old! I did tap, ballet, pointe, modern, musical theatre, street and contemporary at BSOD during this time and took part in all 7 of the school's biannual shows, as well as countless exams and presentations.

After leaving BSOD, I went on to study at the University of Leeds where I currently dance with three UoL street troupes. I compete with the LUU Street Dance Soc and take regular classes in freestyle, lyrical, dancehall, krump, hip-hop and commercial.

As well as dancing at University, I have also performed in music videos, films and commercials alongside musicians and actors.

I miss dancing at BSOD, however since leaving I have been back to teach street at summer school, and I still see and keep in regular contact with the teachers and students. My best friends to this day are those that I made at dancing, and we return often to visit the rest of our BSOD family and watch the shows.

I started dancing at the age of 2 at the Blackheath School of Dance for ISTD Classical Ballet, later going on to train in ISTD Modern, Tap, Street, Pointe and Musical Theatre styles. I completed GCSE Dance (Grade A) in year 8 and went on to study dance at the BRIT School (2009 to 2013) including Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Contemporary dance styles, gaining ISTD Bronze, Silver, Gold Jazz Awards, BTEC Level 3 D*D*D* and A Level Dance as well as travelling to New York to take various dance classes including Alvin Ailey. Performance opportunities included the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony, Dance Proms 2012 (Royal Albert Hall), Harrods Christmas Parade 2012, the Dance World Cup Opening Ceremony, music video, charity performances and various BRIT School shows and presentations.

I am currently studying at the Urdang Academy towards a Degree in Professional Dance and Musical Theatre and have recently signed with Link Talent Agency. Whilst studying at Urdang I have trained with Brian Friedman (Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, X Factor) and Dean Lee (Janet Jackson, Shoshana Bean), performed on the main stage at Move It 2015 with Four Corners Dance Company, was part of YNG Flame, 1st place winners at Hot Stepper Dance Competition 2015, Urdang Summer Shows 2014 and 2015, assisting Urdang Advanced Commercial class at Move It 2014, YNG Flame concept video, Pitch Perfect 2 music video and backing dancer for Pharella at OMWB event.

I have loved performing in the many presentations, biannual shows, various festival and competition pieces as well as completing my ISTD dance examinations when I was a BSOD student. Now I am lucky enough to teach the Advanced, Intermediate and Junior Street, Grade 1 Modern and Stretching and Body Conditioning classes at BSOD every Saturday.
